SPEAKER AT FUNCTIONAL FABRIC FAIR PORTLAND, SPRING 2023
In the Spring of 2023, I got the opportunity to participate in the Nora Kuehner Masterclass X University of Oregon. The masterclass included 3-4 remote sessions for a week. Each student had to choose a topic within the sports industry that focuses on the future of sports product design, sustainability, diversity, and inclusion. Under the guidance of Nora, students had to develop a design concept for their chosen topic.
I got to work on diversity and inclusivity in the sports industry. Footwear design has always been a passion of mine, so I decided to work in this product sector of the sports industry. My project topic for the masterclass was: Designing performance footwear for pregnant female athletes who experience a change in foot size postpartum.
Some user issues addressed in this project were adjustability, functionality, and performance factors without sacrificing comfort or style. The concept was designed around the adaptable needs of the user who experiences a change in the foot size including forefoot widening due to a drop in arch height.
SPEAKER AT FUNCTIONAL FABRIC FAIR PORTLAND, FALL 2022
In the fall of 2022, I got the opportunity to speak at the Functional Fabric Fair event held at the Convention Center in Portland with two of my classmates who were also pursuing the Sports Product Design graduate program at the University of Oregon at that time.
The topic space was: What's In Your Design Toolbox: Emerging Digital Technologies in the Sports Product Design Industry. As a budding future footwear designer and a lifelong design learner who is extremely passionate about 3D design, industrial design, and upcoming digital technologies in design, I spoke about one such new booming technology in the industry, Gravity Sketch which is an extremely powerful tool in today's world that has streamlined the translation of 2D design to 3D design in every designer's workflow.
Being their 2022 Gravity Sketch Student Ambassador after successfully spending hours for roughly 2.5 - 3 months learning the software I was thrilled to speak about this new tool at the event to introduce this new tool and inspire fellow budding designers like me.
